Xtreme 40: The next chapter

Keep on running...

My African heart has been beating strongly and for years I have wanted to head back to Africa and do something over there.

However I have also been longing to head back to to the arctic circle and after many hours spent poring over maps and plenty of planning, it seems that I have come up with a journey that will satisfy both my desires.

Presenting the Xtreme 40!

The plan is to do a run up to the Arctic Circle in temperatures below -40. I am not sure what distance I will run yet - ideally I want to run the Iditarod trail to Nome but Martin Like's Ultra 6633 has really got under my skin and although it is 600 miles shorter it is just as tough, plus I have not done it before so it would be heading into the unknown.

The second part of the Xtreme 40 will start as soon as I finish in the arctic. The plan is to fly straight to the Sahara and run he 150 mile Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert.

Just how wise it is to start the so-called toughest foot race on earth after running across the unforgiving terrain of Alaska remains to be seen but it is definitely something I want to try.

2009 was supposed to be the year I did the Xtreme 40 however due to a stress fracture and damage to my achilles tendon, I have had to postpone it until 2010.

Details to follow soon...
